Effects.of sound on the body
The vibrations from the singing bowls travel through the body, affecting the skin, tissues, body cavities, tendons, muscles, and organs. Since the human body is made up of about 70-80% liquid, it is highly effective in carrying sound. These vibrations help to relax tissue tension, reducing physical strain and neuromuscular blockages.
The calming sounds produced by the singing bowls have a positive impact on the brain's emotional center. The non-harmonic* tones emitted by the bowls help to induce the alpha state in the brain, which is the state of relaxation just before falling asleep. This state allows us to release worries and uncertainties.
The deep relaxation induced by both the physical vibrations and the auditory tones triggers our parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the body's "rest and digest" state. This leads to a decrease in heart rates, improved digestion, and better circulation, as blood vessels relax and blood flow to organs, cells, and tissues increases.
When our body is in a parasympathetic state, it enters a regenerative stage, allowing it to restore internal equilibrium.
*(non-harmonic means the instruments are not tuned to a fundamental note, they have many overtones that the brain can't quite grasp. It lets go and relaxes)
SOUND IS UNIQUE IN THAT IT RELAXES US SIMULTANEOUSLY
THROUGH AUDIBLE TONES AND TACTILE VIBRATIONS
SOUND WORKS ON OUR NERVOUS SYSTEM
ALLOWING OUR BODY TO ENTER INTO IT'S PARASYMPATHETIC STATE
When we feel stressed, our body gears up to tackle potential danger. Our sympathetic nervous system kicks in, releasing adrenaline and prompting our heart to beat faster, sending more blood and oxygen to our muscles and organs. This extra oxygen helps keep our brain sharp, while our bodies get a boost of glucose for extra energy. At the same time, cortisol keeps us on high alert. This response readies us to take on a threat by fighting, freezing, or fleeing. When the danger passes, these effects ease off.
However, our bodies can't always tell the difference between immediate danger and everyday stress like relationship issues, deadlines, and anxiety. When our nervous system stays in this high-alert mode for too long, it can lead to health problems. It's vital to find a way to shift into the parasympathetic nervous system state, also known as the rest-and-digest mode, for our overall well-being. In this state, our internal systems can function properly without the extra fight-or-flight chemicals throwing things off balance. This balanced state, called homeostasis, is crucial for our long-term health. It's important for our bodies to relax and realize that there's no immediate danger, and this is where the power of sound can really make a difference.
WE JUST NEED TO GIVE IT THE CHANCE & THE TOOLS TO ENCOURAGE IT
THE BODY HAS AN INNATE ABILITY TO HEAL & REGENERATE ITSELF
